Summer Savory

Summer savory prefers light, well-drained soil around pH 6.0-7.0 and moderate to low fertility. A little compost is usually enough; frequent tip harvests keep this annual herb branching rather than becoming woody and seed-heavy.

- Even moisture; about 1 in/week including rain

Tips
- Sow tiny seeds on the surface or barely cover them after soil warms, thinning to 8-12 inches apart.
- Keep seedlings moist, then let the soil surface dry slightly between waterings.
- Avoid heavy fertilizer and pinch growing tips once plants are established to encourage branching.
- Check for aphids and root rot, especially where plants are crowded or soil stays wet.
- Cut leafy shoots just before flowering for the strongest drying quality, leaving several inches of growth to regrow.
