Tips
- Trellis vines for straighter fruit.
- Use listed harvest length rather than waiting for yellow skin.
- Remove overripe fruit.
- Keep water even to limit bitterness and misshapen fruit.
- Sow seeds 1 inch deep once soil reaches at least 65ยฐF, thinning to 12 inches apart along a trellis.
- Provide about 1 inch of water weekly, increasing in hot weather and watering beneath the leaves.
- Install a trellis before vines sprawl and gently guide young tendrils onto it.
- Watch for cucumber beetles and bacterial wilt; remove protective row covers when flowers need bee pollination.
- Pick firm green cucumbers frequently before they yellow or develop large seeds.
