Oregano

Oregano thrives in full sun and lean, sharply drained soil near pH 6.0-8.0. A little compost is usually enough fertility; keeping the crown dry and trimming soft growth prevents a sparse, woody plant.

Tips
- Set young plants 12-18 inches apart with the crown level with the soil.
- Water regularly while roots establish, then let the surface soil dry between soakings.
- Skip routine fertilizer in reasonably fertile beds to avoid weak, overly lush growth.
- Trim after flowering without cutting into bare woody stems, and remove any crown-rotted plants.
- Harvest only small sprigs in the first season once plants are growing vigorously.
Plant nursery stock, crowns or divisions at locally recommended times; hardiness and establishment vary.
