Lingonberry

Lingonberries need cool conditions and acidic, organic, well-drained soil around pH 4.5-5.5. They need very little fertilizer and consistent moisture around shallow roots; mulch and careful weeding help their low-growing colonies establish.

Tips
- Set rooted nursery plants at their original depth 12-18 inches apart, using more than one cultivar to improve yields.
- Keep new plantings evenly moist but never waterlogged, especially in summer heat.
- Use only a small amount of fertilizer labeled for acid-loving plants if growth or soil testing indicates a need.
- Hand-weed gently around shallow roots and remove dead shoots, watching for root rot in poorly drained spots.
- Allow plants to fill in during the first years and pick berries when fully red and firm.
Plant rooted nursery plants in spring or early fall in a prepared acidic bed.
