Brassica
Kohlrabi

Kohlrabi prefers fertile, well-drained soil around pH 6.0-7.5 and cool growing weather. Work in compost and use moderate nitrogen feeding to sustain quick growth; steady moisture keeps the swollen aboveground stems tender.
- Sun
- Full sun to part shade
- Water
- Even moisture; about 1 in/week including rain
- Spacing
- 8 in
- First harvest
- 45–60 days
Tips
- Sow 1/4-1/2 inch deep and thin to 6-8 inches apart, or transplant seedlings without burying their growing points.
- Supply about 1 inch of water weekly so growth does not stall.
- Keep soil around plants weed-free without piling it over the swollen stems.
- Protect young leaves with insect mesh and check for flea beetles and cabbageworms.
- Cut ordinary varieties when swollen stems reach 2-3 inches across; giant varieties stay tender at larger sizes listed on the packet.
