Mulberry
Fig

Figs prefer well-drained loam around pH 6.0–6.5 and modest fertility; excess nitrogen encourages leaves instead of fruit. Give young trees consistent water and several establishment seasons, choosing a common fig cultivar that sets fruit without pollination.

- Water deeply during establishment; adjust to rainfall and soil
- Spacing

Tips
- Plant in full sun against a warm, sheltered exposure or use a large container in cold climates.
- Water deeply when the upper soil dries, especially during fruit swelling, to limit drop and splitting.
- Apply fertilizer only for weak growth or a documented deficiency, and stop nitrogen late in the growing season.
- Remove dead or crossing branches while dormant, preserving productive wood appropriate to your cultivar.
- Pick only fully colored, soft fruit with a drooping neck; watch for birds and souring fruit.
Plant nursery stock in spring, or in fall where winters are mild, keeping the root flare at soil level and any graft above soil.
