Amaryllis
Daylily

Daylilies tolerate many soils but flower best in well-drained loam with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Add compost and feed lightly in spring, then divide crowded clumps when flowering declines.
- Sun
- Full sun to part shade
- Water
- 1 in/week; drought tolerant
- Spacing
- 18 in
- First harvest
- Perennial; blooms year 1โ2
Tips
- Set the crown about 1 inch below the soil surface and space plants about 18 inches apart, farther for large cultivars.
- Provide about 1 inch of water weekly during active growth for best flowering, even though established plants tolerate drought.
- Apply a modest balanced fertilizer in spring if needed based on soil fertility.
- Watch for daylily rust on foliage and remove affected leaves; keep plants away from cats because daylilies are highly toxic to them.
- Remove spent flowers and finished stalks, and divide crowded clumps in spring or early fall.
